Clive Hook of Leadership Consulting Partners provides another article for our emerging markets series. This article focuses on how to make teleconferences and cross cultural teams work.
"For the leader of the cross cultural team the challenge is, paradoxically, the lack of any culture and little or no sense of team. Culture is about identity and the prevailing danger of the cross-cultural team is that it will have little or no identity that people can feel a part of and so their own home culture will be the mental model. Engagement will thus be little more than lip service to its objectives and just being apparently online for the teleconference - probably whilst doing something more useful like email or desk tidying as the minutes tick by."
